There is an old saying in the business world: “If you stand still you are going backwards.” Products change, competition gets more aggressive, and everything is moving. If you stand still, it won’t be long before you are out of business.
In Christianity it is even more important to continue to be alert and to keep growing. Satan never rests – SATAN NEVER RESTS – and if we rest he will take over territory in our lives because he is an aggressive competitor for our souls. Therefore God recommends we never ever let up. In fact, God commands that we struggle and fight the devil all the way from here to heaven. Jesus said, “It is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.” (Matthew 10:22)
The apostle Peter encourages Christians to persevere when he writes the following admonitions:
“Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:3)
“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour..” (1 Peter 5:8)
“…applying all diligence in your faith supply (add) moral excellence, knowledge, godliness, brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of your Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-8)
“..grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)
Take the Peter challenge – never ever rest… until you get to heaven. Read and study your Bible every day. Have a set time to pray to God everyday. Clear your schedule and make attending every service at Walnut Hill a top priority so you can listen and learn from others. Don’t let the competition beat you.
