Here is Mike’s spiritual prescription for the rest of your
week life: Be Spiritually Skitzo! That’s right – Be out of your mind for Jesus to the degree that you say goodbye to the old life and live only for Jesus one day at a time. Think of the mess we make of our lives when we are in control. (The reality is we are really never in control – we just think we are.) It is very liberating to say goodbye to self and surrender to Jesus as Savior and Lord. Then we ask that popular question: “What would Jesus do?” – and then do it. The real reality is that we will have wayyyy more joy and wayyyy more peace if we say SO LONG SELF and say hello to real living by following Jesus with radical abandonment to our old life. Give it up! Read Mark 8:34-38; II Corinthians 5:14-17; and Galatians 2:20. Then listen to So Long Self by MercyMe. After that go spiritually skitzo for Jesus.
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
2 Corinthians 5:14-17
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
