All Things New

God is the God of second chances, third chances, and on and on and on. It is better to never slack off in our faith; however, we need to know God will make all things new if we repent with a pure and humble heart as we come back home to Him. Instead of tapping His foot, shaking His finger at us, and rubbing our nose in our sin, the Lord runs to grab us and hug us and make us new again. One of my favorite posters on the wall in my office is: No one can go back and have a new beginning, but anyone can start today and have a new ending.

In Luke 15 Jesus teaches us about God making all things new in the parable of the prodigal son. We also see God making all things new in the nation of Israel time after time in the Old Testament. One of many examples is Isaiah 43:18-19: “But forget all that – it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland”.

The greatest “making all things new” passage is Revelation 21:1-5. Read it and then make time for a very moving video by Big Daddy Weave called All Things New.

Revelation 21:1-5

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”
