I Will Remember by KJ Scriven has very simple (yet powerful) lyrics. It is a beautiful spiritual that calls us to always remember what the Lord has done for us. Gratitude affects your spiritual altitude.
God’s people in the Old Testament got themselves into trouble with the Lord for a variety of reasons. Some of them cheated widows out of their property while others neglected the meet the needs of orphans. Then, some Jews really crossed the line by worshipping the false gods of the people around them. The list goes on and on. What really contributed to their downfall was they forgot what the LORD had done for them. That led to them being ungrateful – they ceased to be thankful.
Recovering sinners like you and me have been saved and sanctified by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. We have an eternal home in heaven. We must never forget -we must always remember, what God did for us and thank Him every day.
Read Hosea 13:1-6(negative) and Psalm 103:1-22(positive). Then listen to I Will Remember by KJ Scriven and discipline yourself to thank the Lord every day for the rest of your time on earth.
Hosea 13:1-6
When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling.
He exalted himself in Israel,
But through Baal he incurred guilt and died.
And now they sin more and more,
And make for themselves cast metal images,
Idols skillfully made from their silver,
All of them the work of craftsmen.
They say of them, “Let the people who sacrifice kiss the calves!”
Therefore they will be like the morning cloud
And like dew which soon disappears,
Like chaff which is blown away from the threshing floor,
And like smoke from a chimney.
Yet I have been the Lord your God
Since the land of Egypt;
And you were not to know any god except Me,
For there is no savior besides Me.
I cared for you in the wilderness,
In the land of drought.
As they had their pasture, they became satisfied,
And as they became satisfied, their heart became proud;
Therefore they forgot Me.
Psalm 103
Bless the Lord, my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
And do not forget any of His benefits;
Who pardons all your guilt,
Who heals all your diseases;
Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with favor and compassion;
Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
The Lord performs righteous deeds
And judgments for all who are oppressed.
He made known His ways to Moses,
His deeds to the sons of Israel.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in mercy.
He will not always contend with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our guilty deeds.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our wrongdoings from us.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
For He Himself knows our form;
He is mindful that we are nothing but dust.
As for man, his days are like grass;
Like a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
When the wind has passed over it, it is no more,
And its place no longer knows about it.
But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting for those who fear Him,
And His justice to the children’s children,
To those who keep His covenant
And remember His precepts, so as to do them.
The Lord has established His throne in the heavens,
And His sovereignty rules over all.
Bless the Lord, you His angels,
Mighty in strength, who perform His word,
Obeying the voice of His word!
Bless the Lord, all you His angels,
You who serve Him, doing His will.
Bless the Lord, all you works of His,
In all places of His dominion;
Bless the Lord, my soul!
