I’ve heard the song before but for some reason this morning the lyrics hit me in the heart in a way like never before. Same Power by Jeremy Camp has a “David and Goliath” message for Christians today. As David confronted the giant of a man, Goliath, he said, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a saber, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” (I Samuel 17:45). David had a faith that KNEW God was with him and would bring him victory. In Psalm 27 he writes, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom should I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. If an army encamps against me, my heart will not fear; if war arises against me, in spite of this I am confident. (Psalm 27:1-3). David did not just believe God was alive and real – David believed God was powerfully involved in his life as he walked by faith.
David lived 1,000 years before Jesus with immense faith in God’s powerful presence in his life. Here we are living 2,000 years on the other side of the cross. We have much more revelation than those who lived before Jesus. We have the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus to move us in our faith. And one of the inspired messages we read all over the pages of the New Testament concerns the powerful presence of God in our lives as His Holy Spirit lives and works in us. The Holy Spirit marks and seals us as God’s children (Ephesians 1:13-14). He intercedes for us in our prayers (Romans 8:26). He even helps us become more like Jesus in how we think, speak and act (Galatians 5:22-23). And God will work through us in a powerful way as we trust Him more.
Maybe we have limited God’s power in our lives because we don’t understand the great things He will do if we open our hearts in greater faith? Maybe we need to let go and let God do greater things than we can imagine? Instead of putting God in a box concerning what He can/will do, maybe we should think and believe outside the box. Remember, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, calmed raging storms with a word, healed demon-possessed people without raising a finger, will accomplish great things in our lives by faith.

Matthew 21:18-22
Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
