Only the Beginning

How we VIEW life on earth drastically affects how we will LIVE life on earth. If we only have fleshly, physical eyesight we will see a baby born and an elderly person die and will think to ourselves, “This is it – this is all there is to life”. It will influence us to go for all the gusto we can in this life because when it’s over – we’re like Rover – dead all over. But if we have spiritual eyesight we will see that life from birth until death is only the beginning. Paul writes in II Corinthians 4:16-5:1 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands”.

It takes humility and honesty to examine the evidence for or against Jesus and the eternal life He alone provides. It is arrogance, cynicism and dishonesty that blinds people to the life Jesus provides in the spiritual realm in the hereafter. Arrogance makes us ignorant and cynicism makes us blind. Most people spend their entire life denying, dismissing and dethroning Jesus from His rightful position as God the Son who created the world (including us) and brought us salvation. Most people wait until their deathbed and then frantically make a feeble attempt at claiming they believe in Jesus, hoping their trashy trust in Jesus will stick against the wall of salvation.

TODAY is the day of salvation. We need to believe in God’s grace and let His love move us to repent and be buried with Christ in baptism. We need to rise up to a new life of living for Jesus for the rest of our lives. Every day we are renewed and say, “This is only the beginning”. Every day we look toward our home in heaven and say, “This is only the beginning”.

Matthew 7:13-14

The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 7:21-28

True and False Disciples

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

The Wise and Foolish Builders

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,

Philippians 3:12-16

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Following Paul’s Example

15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

Hebrews 11:13-16

13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
