How can a lamb be a shepherd?! How does the almighty, omnipotent God end up in the most powerless place on the planet (nailed to a cross)?! How in the world does God even become a man?! Moreover, WHY in the world would God even want to become a man?! I mean, a human might think that would be a good thing; however, if you are GOD it is a big step down. The gospel in a nutshell of magnanimity and majesty is shared by Aaron Shust in the song entitled: My Savior, My God. It all seems too good to be true and impossible to have happened. The Divine Creator of everything (including you and me) left the eternal glory of heaven and came to earth as the Son of God for the explicit purpose of saving us. He redeems, forgives, and justifies us when we put our faith in the hands of our Savior and God, Jesus Christ. Read some high spots in the Gospel of John to get a thumbnail sketch of who Jesus is and what He did for us: John 1:1-3, 14, 18; 3:16-17; 6:35; 8:12; 10:10-14; 11:25-26; 14:1-11; 15:13; 19:30; 20:26-31. Then listen to My Savior, My God by Aaron Shust.
P.S. Imagine if you took a few minutes each day to forward these morning scripture/song devotionals to co-workers, family, friends, etc.? How hard is that? Maybe they will help a loved one come closer to Jesus. Maybe when this crazy virus goes away they will come to visit Walnut Hill Church of Christ and one day go to heaven. That’s part of Jesus taking control.
P.P.S. Stars falling to the earth, moon becoming like blood, etc. Tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. we see the final judgment in Revelation 6:12-17. Be there or be square.
John 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:18
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 6:35
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 10:10-14
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 14:1-11
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.
John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 19:30
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
John 20:26-31
A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
