My Jesus – My Job

will-work-for-god (1)To a non-Christian a job is a place where you expend your physical or mental ability in exchange for money. Some find fulfillment in the challenge itself, and some find it in the money received. The money is used to support the family and buy things to enjoy because “you only go around once in life.”

What about a Christian and his or her work? Does our career have any meaning beyond the world’s concept mentioned above? The answer is YES!

Christians who have paying jobs or own their own business can use it to bring glory to God and thereby find spiritual fulfillment from their secular work. Paul writes, “Let him who steals steal no longer; but rather let him labor, performing with his own hands what is good, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need” Ephesians 4:28.

Your career can be and should be part of your ministry for God. If you view your job as separate and unrelated to your spirituality, you’re not maximizing the fruit of your labors. Use your money not simply as “yours to do with what you please,” but as a stewardship from God to help in the work of the Lord.

One brother in the church told me he wants to build his business to be very successful so he can provide financial support for a missionary into a foreign country. Now that’s career minded – Christ’s Career!

Be a good steward – have a successful ministry at your job by viewing your income as an opportunity to help in the Lord’s Work.
