Mountain Top Experience in the Valley

It’s not optically-physically possible to envision being on top of a mountain in a valley, because if you’re up high you can’t be down low at the same time. How can someone be on a mountain top when they are in a valley? Isn’t that a contradictory statement? The answer: it is impossible from a physical point, but not from a spiritual standpoint.

When Christians hit the lows of life (problems with finances, family, health, work, etc.) there is really only one right way to look… UP… to God! Those who know and love God realize God has not abandoned them; rather, He is with them every step of the way as He provides them with special blessings that only come in the valley.

David knew God had not abandoned him in the low points of life; rather, God was with him, protecting and blessing him. David writes, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me” (Psalm 23:4). David was experiencing one of the terrible valleys of the shadow of death. WOW! What insight into the nature and heart and presence of God!

The apostle Paul is beaten and stuffed in a prison, yet he still writes, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice! “ (Philippians 4:4). He is at a low physical point, but on a real high from a spiritual standpoint. He goes on to say, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13). Paul’s attitude was one of ’victory in the valley’ when he writes, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21). The presence of God in increasing measure when he is in the valley – that’s a mountain top experience in the valley!

The next time you are in the valley “consider it all joy,” (James 1:2-4), as God lifts you up on the mountain top of experiencing His presence and His blessings. It is indeed one of the blessed mysteries of faith.
