How can He create a perfect body, breathe life into it, and them having formed woman from the man, set in motion a process of natural reproduction that will allow for bodies equally as marvelous as the original? Consider some interesting facts about our tabernacle of clay.
If you are a person of average size, you perform in each day of 24 hours, the following functions:
1. Your heart beats 103,689 times.
2. You breathe 23,400 times.
3. You inhale 438 cubic feet of air.
4. You eat between 3 and 4 pounds of food and drink 3 quarts of liquid, and perspire about 2 pints through your skin.
5. You generate 450 foot tons of energy.
6. Your body maintains a steady temperature of 98.6 degrees under all weather conditions.
7. You speak 4800 words (men only), and move and use over 700 muscles, use 7,000,000 brain cells, and walk 7 miles (women only) in the home – not men, they ride.
God can do it! He can design a human body that is “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). And He does so thousands of times a day. His ability to do it, of course, is tied in with His omnipotence. “The things which are impossible with man are possible with God” (Luke 18:27). His interest in designing man’s highly functional body relates to His love and concern. It is so constructed that man can work, dream, rest, have fun, exercise, and still have energy to serve the Creator.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1)
