The Israelites heard some discouraging words from God through the prophet Amos. Some of the saddest were, “Behold, days are coming, declares the Lord God, when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord.” (Amos 8:11). Not only were the Israelites going to face physical difficulties in the future, but the day was coming when they would hear nothing from God. Now that’s a sad day!

Can you imagine not having the luxury of reading your Bible? Can you imagine not even having a Bible to open? Can you imagine not being allowed the privilege of hearing a Bible class lesson or a sermon from the Word of God? The very thought of that should cause us to stuff ourselves with His Word, just in case it’s gone tomorrow.

We are blessed beyond comprehension. We also have some big responsibilities that accompany those blessings. One of the responsibilities is to study the Word of God, be present for every Bible class possible, and worship every Sunday humanly possible. May our Bibles get worn out over a period of years as we search the scriptures diligently to know God better.

Kick off 2020 with determination and commitment to grow ‘closer to Christ.’

How sweet are Your words to my taste? Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth? From your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:103-105
