One way to tell where you are in your faith is to consider how strong your desire is for heaven. If a Christian is caught up in this world (money, possessions, career, toys, technology, sports, entertainment, etc.) they don’t give heaven much thought. They might even think that life on earth is so fulfilling they hope they don’t have to go to heaven for a long time. That’s not a good sign. On the other hand, if a Christian regularly longs for the day they can be with the Lord in glory they are speaking valuable volumes about their faith.
Did you know God’s heart is touched when His children long to be with Him in heaven? Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him”. God is pleased and moved in His spirit when His children seek the reward of eternity with Him in glory over against what this world has to offer.
The song today brought tears to my eyes. It hits the nail on the head for those who crave that unbroken fellowship with the Lord in glory. C.S. Lewis said it well: “The fact that our heart yearns for something earth can’t supply is proof that heaven must be our home”.
The song is rich in scripture: Matthew 25:14-30; Philippians 3:20-21; II Timothy 4:6-8; I John 3:2; Revelation 21:1-4 and others.
Read Hebrews 11:13-16. Then listen to Well Done by The Afters. After that, do a little reflecting on how strong of a desire you have to hear the words of this song from God.
Hebrews 11:13-16
All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
