They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42
One of the beautiful blessings of being a Christian is the family atmosphere we enjoy together as brothers and sisters in Christ. We have a common love for each other that the world cannot understand. We worship God together as his children and that binds us together in a common salvation.
Christians also take time and make time to spend time together in more casual settings. We call it fellowship. As the song says, “And sometimes we laugh together, sometimes we cry; sometimes we share together, heart aches and size; sometimes we dream together of how it will be when we all get to heaven, God’s family.”
There are tremendous benefits of being part of a family that loves God and loves spending time with each other. We can encourage each other, comfort one another, and we can share our faith and our lives together as we help one another get to heaven. The pluses are too numerous to list – and actually, there are no negatives to fellowship unless loving and caring and encouraging people is bad.
This month we kick off our small groups again. I pray that God blesses each group as they grow closer together in love and in friendship. I pray the small groups build up the body as a whole. Come to be blessed and also to be a blessing to others.
