What is Awana?
Awana is an age-based program that aims to reach kids and families with the gospel. The name is derived as an acronym of “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”, taken from 2 Timothy 2:15. Awana consists of a small group handbook time and a large group teaching session. The curriculum is designed to develop a biblical foundation for the children. Children learn how to memorize God’s Word, study the Bible, and apply it to their lives. They also learn about worldwide missions and the need to help others. As children complete various stages in the Awana program, they earn awards. A favorite part of the weekly meeting is game time that includes games, races, and relays.
The Awana Children’s Program at Walnut Hill Church of Christ meets on Wednesday nights, during the school year, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The program is available for children up to 6th grade. To assist parents on busy school nights, food is provided at 6:00. We invite all parents to attend Bible class in the auditorium while their children are in the Awana program.
Our goal is for parents and the church to work together to teach God’s Word across kids’ formative years and to produce young adults marked by steadfast biblical faith and character.
Awana Prayer: That all children and youth throughout the world will come to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
