God Is Our Strength

The telephone rings. It’s the police calling to give you the bad news or you’re in the doctor’s office and the diagnosis is not in your favor. Maybe you heard some distressing news on the radio or saw it on TV. Perhaps it’s a matter of just having a “bad day.” Regardless of the severity of today’s trouble, we all must make an important decision – who will we lean on for support and comfort and encouragement?

No one can go through life without experiencing trials and problems. Some avoid the confrontation by escaping to alcohol, drugs, etc. The Christian approaches the situation differently. The first action Christians should take is to bow their head in prayer. After all, who’s really in control of this world anyway? Hardly anything is more touching spiritually than talking with a brother or sister who is suffering from an illness, death in the family, or some other trial, and hearing them say, “I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have God to lean on.” That is one of the finest sermons one will ever hear. It brings to mind the song, “It Is Well with My Soul.”

There is a secret to being able to find true comfort in God during rough times. The secret is to lean on Him at all times. The more we mature in Christ, the more we see that we need Him every hour. Find peace, security, strength, encouragement, etc. by leaning on God throughout life and into eternity.

Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31
