In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) Jesus taught the disciples, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:13-16).
The hard truth is that we must do more to share Jesus with others. We are the spiritual city of God. We are the kingdom of God. In Revelation 5:10 John writes, “…You have them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth”. And included in being the people of God is being focused and committed to sharing our faith to help others because we want everyone to be saved – just like Jesus does.
We don’t have to be perfect in our outreach because God will work with imperfect vessels. Like the apostle Paul wrote, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves” (II Corinthians 4:7). Many times God will work in spite of us – I know He does with me!
Read Matthew 9:35-38 and feel compassion for the lost like Jesus does. Then listen to City of God by Love & The Outcome.
Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.
Seeing the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He *said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
