City On Our Knees

I’ve got it – I have the solution to all of society’s woes.  Actually, I didn’t come up with it myself – I found it in this big, big book called the Bible.  It turns out that if the main “thing” in my life is the same main “thing” in your life we can have unity – IFFF that main “thing” is Jesus.  Oh, surely that is too simplistic an answer to the problem.  It has to be harder and more complex than that. More government programs and policies will fix it.  And, if the government can’t fix it, I’ll bet Hollywood can chime in and do the job.  Nope – Jesus is still the answer.  Just imagine a world (not the way John Lennon imagined) in which Jesus is THE King.  There will be love, peace, and unity. (That world is coming so get ready.)  Read Romans, I and II Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and other letters of Paul and look at the amount of ink he spills on unity in Christ because spiritually immature people have trouble loving others.  Every one of his Holy Spirit inspired solutions to people treating people with love point to Jesus.  Here are some suggestions above and beyond what many in our society blather about: First: change hearts and lives by sharing Jesus with others more than you currently do.  Second: Make agape love the top priority of your Christian walk and talk as you admit that you can only control yourself.  Third: Above all, spend way, way, way more time in prayer talking to God to fix the problems of society and less time talking to others about it.  We don’t need more man-made solutions – we need more prayer!  We need to be on our knees more as we pour out our hearts to the King so the Holy Spirit will convict people who hate to become people who love.  The Gospel of Jesus Christ is THE solution.  So, how much time do you spend praying to the King about society’s woes compared to how much time you spend talking to others?  ON YOUR KNEES CHRISTIAN – ON YOUR KNEES!!!  Read Romans 12:14-21; 15:5-7 and then listen to City on Our Knees by TobyMac.

Romans 12:14-21

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
    if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 15:5-7

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
