A part of our Christianity that is so important, yet sometimes neglected, is our prayer life. When we submit to God in prayer, we can express to Him our dependence upon Him and be reminded of the fact that we are nothing without Him. What would we do without our Father to lean on in times of need?
Consistency is needed in our prayer lives. To pray to God only when we’re in “sinking sand” displays a lack of maturity on our part. We must grow to a more constant communication level with God. It would be great to follow the Apostle Paul’s instructions to the Thessalonians in I Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing.”
Listed below are suggestions I’ve collected from various brothers and sisters who work on improving their prayer life:
1. Go for long walks outside while you pray.
2. As you read a touching passage in the Bible, stop right there and pray about it.
3. Live a holier life between prayers.
4. Make a daily appointment with God.
5. Make a prayer list with specific details.
6. Write your prayer on paper.
7. Read Psalm 8, 139 and other passages before praying.
8. Humble yourself.
Certainly the above list is not exhaustive, but there may be just one suggestion you can work into your prayer life to help you draw closer to Christ.
