Sokhom Hun spent the first 23 years of his life in Cambodia. He witnessed the killing of his family and friends and suffered near-death experiences at the hands of the Khmer Rouge, the totalitarian regime of Pol Pot. After coming to the United States, Sokhom worked in a small business in Dallas for many years while also serving as an active member and elder in the Cambodian church of Christ east of Dallas. Sokhom decided to commit his life to full-time ministry to help Cambodians come from Buddhism to Christianity. He and his wife, Phauline, returned to their home country to spread the Gospel and train church leaders. Sokhom devotes the majority of his time to teaching the word of God to new church leaders who need much instruction in their churches.
The Walnut Hill Church of Christ sponsors the mission work in Cambodia. The Cambodian people are a humble, loving people who are wide open to hearing and receiving the good news of Jesus Christ. They experience much difficulty in their lives due to abject poverty. This is a unique opportunity to develop an effective mission work because of Sohhom’s and Phauline’s understanding of the language, culture and history of Cambodia.
The progress the Lord is making with Sokhom and the preaching school is amazing. You can click on the links below to view video reports from Mike on the work going on in Cambodia.
