When We Fall Apart

“It’s ok to cry – it’s ok to fall apart, You don’t have to try to be strong – when you are not”. The lyrics to the song When We Fall Apart pierce our heart with a heavy dose of reality, honesty and comfort all at the same time. Losing a loved one can be a pill too hard to swallow. Thank God for sending His Son to take away the sting of death for us and for those we love who follow Jesus. The apostle Paul writes, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (I Corinthians 15:55). Losing a loved one hurts, but the poisonous sting of Satan and sin is lessened some when we know our loved one went home to be with the Lord in glory.

Jesus said, “I AM the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? (John 11:25-26). In this passage, everyone is weeping over the death of Lazarus. Even Jesus weeps; however, Jesus weeps because He sees what sin and death have done to mankind. Again, thank God for sending His Son to take away the sting of death for us and for those we love who follow Jesus.

Read I Thessalonians 4:13-18. Then listen to When We Fall Apart by Ryan Stevenson. It is a very emotional song and you might listen to it more than once. And, after that, thank God one more time for sending His Son to take away the sting of death for us and for those we love who follow Jesus.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead, so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. For we say this to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who remain, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore, comfort one another with these words.
