God is higher than anything and anyone, outshining everything you can see in the skies. Who can compare with God, our God, so majestically enthroned, surveying his magnificent heavens and earth? He picks up the poor from out of the dirt, rescues the wretched who’ve been thrown out with the trash, seats them among the honored guests, a place of honor among the brightest and best. He gives childless couples a family, gives them joy as the parents of children. Hallelujah! (Psalm 113:5-9).
God is awesome, exalted and enthroned as the one and only God and king over the entire universe, yet He lowers Himself to be with us and bless us. It’s one of the most amazing and treasured attributes and actions of God. The Lord our God not only humbles Himself to be among us, He blesses us out of the kindness of His heart. You would think it would be beyond God’s dignity to “hang out” with us human sinners but His love moves Him in our direction. What’s even more extra special is that God especially favors those who are disadvantaged. The widow, the orphan, the poor, those with various special needs – God has a special place in His heart for them.
Rumor has it that Mikey is not much of a Christmas guy but this medley forwarded to me hit me in the heart. It is performed by a group of really special young people that could even touch the heart of Scrooge. I would entitle it: Special Needs – Special Children of God. Read Matthew 1:18-25 and then view the video.
Matthew 1:18-25
Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, since he was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a Son; and you shall name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Now all this took place so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled: “Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they shall name Him Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he named Him Jesus.
