Nothing Compares

Believe me that this is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s the cat’s meow and THE crown jewel. In other words: nothing compares!

If the Christian life amounts to nothing more than believing the right things and obeying God’s commands the attractive allurements of this world will draw us away from God. At a minimum, the things of this world will prevent us from being close to God. If we do not have a rich relationship with the Lord the things in this life will capture our devotion and control us.

What if you had more money than you could spend? What if every possession the world has to offer was set before you? What if you had to choose between what this world has to offer OR choose a rich, redeemed relationship with Jesus? Which would you choose? Keep Mark 8:36 in mind: For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

God’s people know nothing compares to the glory of God. God’s children know that nothing compares to the beautiful bond we have with our heavenly Father through our Lord Jesus Christ as His Holy Spirit indwells us. That’s why we don’t reduce our faith to simply going through religious motions; rather, we follow God’s word because we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We enjoy the rich relationship with our redeemer because nothing in this life compares to being close to Christ.

Read Psalm 63:1-11 and listen to Nothing Compares by Third Day. Then, go on your way through the day, basking in the presence of a loving God.

God, You are my God; I shall be watching for You;

My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and exhausted land where there is no water.
So have I seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and glory.
Because Your favor is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul is satisfied as with fat and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,
For You have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
My soul clings to You;
Your right hand takes hold of me.

But those who seek my life to destroy it,
Will go into the depths of the earth.
They will be turned over to the power of the sword;
They will be a prey for foxes.
But the king will rejoice in God;
Everyone who swears by Him will boast,
For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.
